Chicago is a really large city. The United States Census Bureau puts the population at approximately 2.7 million people. With a crowd that large, feeling connected can be a bit of a challenge. For years I rode the Metra (the commuter railroad for the Chicago metropolitan area) with thousands of others to and from work each weekday. Some days I could work on the train, some days I couldn’t. It all depended on the crowd and the weather. I met plenty of people who did the same thing as me for a living (and even more who didn’t). One thing that became apparent was we were all stressed from commuting and even more stressed with the apparent lack of a reachable community.

This community would give us resources to discuss and troubleshoot issues. And not to mention build relationships through networking. When I converted from a traditional (commuting) worker to a modern (remote) worker, I felt an even larger disconnect. My only opportunity to see tech peers was at conferences a few times a year. I knew something needed to change.

This is exactly why I have started the Naperville System Center User Group. It is specifically for IT pros in the West (and far West) suburbs who are feeling disconnected from the tech community. With a mix of IT strategy and loads of technical demos, it is the perfect balance for both the decision makers and technicians to attend. You will hear from experts around the world on practical tips and tricks on the technical side and decision makers will be given tools to cut through the fluff and make the best choices for IT and for the business.

Our first meeting is July 21, 2017 from 12pm – 6pm at the NIU Conference Center on Diehl Rd in Naperville. We picked this location because it is easily accessed from I-88, otherwise a quick Uber/Lyft ride from both Naperville train stations for anybody joining from neighboring suburbs. I am proud to be joined by world-renowned expert, Johan Arwidmark, who will be delivering an amazing session on OS deployment tips based on real-world experience. My own session will cover what IT pros should be looking for when test driving the technical previews of Windows 10 and ConfigMgr. We have two great sponsors who will deliver tech sessions as well – Adaptiva and Flexera. Be sure to join our first meeting and find out more about how you can be part of our new community.
