Free Secure 10 Community Solution Includes Task Sequences to Support New Windows 10 Upgrade Scenarios
SEATTLE — June 15, 2017 — Adaptiva, the market leader in smart scaling systems management, today released a new update to its free community solution, Secure 10™. The release leverages new technology from Microsoft to help enterprises further automate and accelerate their migration from Windows 7/8 to secure Windows 10. The updated Secure 10 solution integrates advanced capabilities in the Windows 10 Creators Update and the latest version of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). The community offering has been thoroughly tested on hardware from Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The solution now includes two working Task Sequences to simplify integration into in-house processes for both PC refresh/replace and in-place upgrade scenarios.
The open solution includes detailed documentation to help SCCM system administrators overcome the complexities of automating the conversion from:
- BIOS to UEFI – Secure 10 automates the conversion process from the legacy BIOS firmware typically used in Windows 7/8 systems to the more powerful Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) technology. UEFI is required to enable key enterprise security features available in Windows 10.
- MBR to GPT – Secure 10 now includes support for the MBR2GPT.exe tool, which helps convert the disk layout on a PC from the legacy Master Boot Record (MBR) to GUID Partition Table (GPT). The new tool is the only Microsoft-supported tool to convert a production disk from MBR to GPT without data loss, greatly speeding in-place upgrades to Windows 10.
- WinPE Pre-staging – Microsoft recently introduced the capability to pre-stage a WinPE boot image to a partition from within an SCCM Task Sequence and have that image persist during the conversion from MBR to GPT. Secure 10 supports this capability for refresh/replace scenarios.
Adaptiva’s Secure 10 solution makes the BIOS to UEFI conversion process simple and automatic, so migrations take much less time and administrators don’t need to be on-site during the process. The new Task Sequences and customizable instructions make it possible for anyone using SCCM to automate all aspects of the BIOS to UEFI migration. While specific steps are included for HP, Dell, and Lenovo systems, the solution can easily be extended for makes and models from any vendor that provides UEFI utilities.
The free Secure 10 BIOS to UEFI 2017 Update is publicly available now at http://www2.adaptiva.com/Secure10-BIOS-to-UEFI. Additionally, it is listed in the Tools section of Adaptiva’s online SCCM Academy. For current Adaptiva OneSite™ customers, Secure 10 will also be automatically included as a pre-packaged WorkFlow in the next OneSite version release.
